Remington M 40

Remington M 40

This is an impressive example of a Remington 700 assault rifle assembled using standard M40 model parts to mimic the original Vietnam M40 rifle. This model was assembled/manufactured sometime in the 1970s/80s. The receiver was made around 1966/67 and is correctly marked with "US" on the original serial number. However, the receiver is no longer fitted with a stripper clip like the original M40s, but has an early manual cutout behind the ejection port. Updated with original Remington M40 model barrel with six points and chambers, appropriate tapered profile (about 1.25 at breech to .850 at muzzle), and a flat muzzle crown. Barrel has several Remington factory codes, slightly dented indicating it was modified/refinished when rebuilt. It has the original blued bolt that has been (electro-etched) with the serial number of the same gun. It has the original Remington aluminum trigger guard, ground plate and stamped, nickel plated follower. The rifle has an M40 design, a walnut stock with a Monte-Carlo style cheekpiece and a Remington marked steel plate. The stock is mounted in glass in the action area, and the barrel is free floating and has a serial number / tag to the barrel channel. It has the original Remington 1 1/2 inch sling swivels. The left side is also designed with the DOD cartouche. It has a vintage green anodized Redfield 3X-9X Accu-Range telescopic sight with built-in recoil, medium yellow hairs, some stadia projection dials, and a clear plastic (tombstone) (ie loose) cover. . This allows the sniper to estimate distances from 200-800 yards by adding or subtracting the power circle. The scope is set to the original Redfield one-piece scope that has been renumbered to fit the rifle. The base has a 1 inch split ring engraved "64" on the bottom. The first gun number was removed from the site; it has been stripped, repainted (flat black) and renumbered to match this gun. The metal parts have the same blue finish as used originally, and the upper halves of the end rings are blue. The body of the bolt has a brown patina. The Redfield scope has an olive green anodized finish and the gun's serial number is positioned to the base of the scope and penciled correctly on the side of the end tube. The rifle's serial number falls on the same list as the original M40s; however, this serial number is NOT listed or identified by Remington as the original M40 sniper rifle. It is excellent. The rifle retains 98% original packaging on the barrel and receiver. Most of the blue finish is on the bolt, base end and rings. The telescopic sight is in very good condition and is almost all original black anodized. Optics are excellent, with most showing minor wear. Barrel and receiver marks are excellent. The walnut stock has a semi-gloss finish and is in very good condition with very few marks. This is an excellent representative example of the Marine Vietnam M40 Sniper Rifle in the configuration used during the Vietnam War. with accuracy and can be used for tactical sniper teams or competition shooting. These guns are very powerful and many non-gunners buy them because they want basic power and performance. Some of these owners are enthusiasts and serious fans of gun history too. To satisfy the needs of these historical shooting fans, there are original sniper rifles on the collector's market as well as period rifles made by companies such as Remington including the M40 rifles. about ten years ago. Today there are companies like GA Precision, Texas Brigade Armory and others that will make rifles that look like the M40A1. The rifle we are reviewing today is based on an "Improved Product" version of the USMC M40 submachine gun that was adopted in 1966. The rifle under review was built by a new company called, appropriately enough, the Company- M40 rifle operation. .

The M40 rifle factory offers several different models of the M40 rifle shown here. This model under review is known as the M40-66 which refers to the year the M40 was designated and adopted by the USMC, 1966. The first thing that should be said is that the M40-66 rifle is not intended for complete perfect. replica, and we will show some of the differences later in this review. But these drawings will be seen as continuing or repeating the original image. For you car guys and gals out there, it's like a 2005 Ford GT or maybe a Singer Porsche 911 built today. The traditional feel, look and feel of the original M40 has been retained, but has been updated to modern standards using the latest weapon manufacturing techniques. The result is a tribute to the past and its place in history, but the gun now functions as a modern and contemporary lethal weapon. In this review we will compare the original M40 to show some differences and similarities and especially to point out the areas that have improved on the original. In those illustrations we will be using the Remington M40 rifle that we have here in the store.

The stock of the M40-66 is a premium walnut stock with all the beauty and warmth traditionally associated with wood. The original M40 from 1966 used the standard Remington 700 Varmint rifle with BDL wood type and the first obvious difference is that the M40-66 has a much higher quality wood than the old rifle. of the M40.
