Ruger Pistols 2022 - Certainly an interesting weapon, the Ruger American pistol was built for the US Army - and now it can be yours: The Ruger American Piston is one of the new pistols on the US pistol market, created to be used in the US Army's Modular Handgun System compete. Although it would never match the winner, Sig Sauer, the Ruger American pistol is now available to civilian shooters looking for a reliable, safe and well-designed pistol bearing the Ruger name.
In a field of famous American gun manufacturers, some date back as far as the 19th century. century, one of the strongest is actually relatively new on the scene. The Sturm Ruger company was founded in 1949 by Alexander Sturm and Bill Ruger. Sturm Ruger became known for revolvers, including the Ruger Security Six and the Ruger Redhawk, and rifles such as the Hawkeye, Mini-14 and Ruger 10/22.

In the mid-1980s, the emergence of the "Wonder Nines" - large-capacity polymer-framed handguns - caught Ruger and many American gun manufacturers off guard. Although outside of Ruger's traditional area of expertise, the company quickly responded with the now discontinued P-Series handguns. In the mid-2010s, the US Army's Modular Handgun System (MHS) contract promised to sell one hundred thousand handguns to the Army alone, and the rest of the services would likely be left behind by the Army. Ruger designed the Ruger American pistol for the MHS contract, but ultimately declined to enter it in the competition. The gun was released to the civilian market in 2015.
Ruger Security 9 Semi Auto Pistol
The Ruger American pistol, like most pistols today, is a locked breech, short recoil pistol. Unlike most pistols, the serialized part—the part that is technically considered the firearm—is not the lower receiver, but is actually a removable, billet stainless steel chassis that holds the fire control group. This provides strength and durability to help with higher +P pressure loads that the gun should be used for regularly. The stick, in turn, sits in the polymer frame. This is similar in design to the Sig P320 chassis. In theory, this lends itself to using frames of different sizes in case the user wants to change things, although such frames are not yet implemented.
The Ruger is a pistol with a 5.5 pound trigger. It is available in both 9mm Luger and .45 ACP, with the former holding a seventeen-round magazine and the latter holding a ten-round magazine. The basic service model has a 4.2-inch barrel, 7.5-inch overall length, and weighs 30 ounces. New compact versions of both have a slightly shorter barrel and overall length for the same magazine size. The Ruger American pistol is equipped with flat Novak sights and an underbarrel Picatinny rail that allows for the mounting of lights and laser sights.
The ergonomics of the American gun are excellent. The gun has aggressive sliding serrations and controls the front and rear straps for a tight fit. The pistol also comes with three different backstraps to fit the shooter's hand, an increasingly common feature and a key requirement of the Army's modular pistol system. Left-handers will appreciate that the Ruger American pistol is fully ambidextrous, with the slide stop, safety and magazine release all fully usable by left- or right-handed shooters.
Safety is a top priority with American Pistol. Unlike a Glock, the gun can be unloaded without pulling the trigger. It also has an internal automatic trigger lock to prevent accidental fire, aided by a trigger safety that requires the trigger to be pulled for the gun to fire. Like most trigger pistols, it lacks a manual safety mechanism by default, although a safety is available wherever and whenever it is needed. The gun also has a loading chamber indicator that lights up to alert the user that there is a cartridge in the chamber.
Ruger® New Products
Ruger built the American pistol to perform in the harsh environments a US Army service pistol can find itself in by being submerged in water, sand, dust and mud. The gun was exposed to salt spray, moisture and high temperatures, and was even pulled from the back of a vehicle. In reliability tests, Ruger has tested the American pistol to twenty thousand rounds without problems; In an outdoor test, the gun ran 5,500 rounds with only one miss, which the user attributed to the ammunition. One last data point: Ruger has experienced relatively few product recalls in recent years compared to other gun manufacturers.
The Ruger American pistol is a fully modern pistol that offers the best features available. A young gun with growth potential that will almost certainly become available in other calibers and sizes over time. It will be interesting to see what new directions Sturm Ruger pushes this new pistol.
