Remington's massive factory in Ilion, New York, is recovering after a fall and winter of uncertainty following last year's bankruptcy, divestment and sale. 2021 means we'll see Remington rifles on dealer shelves again. While this is encouraging, the 13-year ownership by the private equity group Cerberus Capital Management has weakened the brand as the quality has declined. The new owners have the opportunity and the challenge to win back Remington fans. Everyone, especially the green-blooded immortals, are waiting and watching to see what kind of guns RemArms will make and how well it will make them. In an exclusive Q&A for F&S, our questions about the upcoming new iterations of the Remington 870, Model 700 and more are answered by Adam Ballard, Director of Product Management at RemArms, a 17-year veteran of the firearms industry. firearms.

Q: What about specific plans for the 870 and Model 700? Will they be value tools, premium products, or both?
A: We believe these products deserve a place among their respective categories. Since this marks the beginning of a new chapter in the history of the brand, we intend to enhance these products with quality, features and technical improvements.

Q: What is the long term plan for RemArms? Will it remain a niche manufacturer like, say, Ithaca, or will it become a major force in the industry again?
A: Our goal is to be loyal to our brand and produce first-class products for consumers. While we may not be as big as The Big Green we once were, we believe many of our brand loyalists will be very happy with our new approach to quality, and we will undoubtedly continue to be seen as a force majeure
A: Our biggest priority right now is to get back into business with our core products. However, we have started several exciting projects to revive the existing product lines, as well as to develop new platforms that we will open in the future.
Q: Remington rifles have had a stellar reputation for accuracy; With today's focus on long-term precision performance, will hyper-precision once again become part of the company's DNA?

A: Yes. As we look to start production, we are evaluating things like gauge, twist rates and manufacturing processes to regain our reputation for precision and reliability.
Q: What are your plans for the Model Seven? 7600 and 750? What about semi-automatic rifles?
After the 870 and 700, our next priority is to bring back our venerable model 1100 and the revolutionary V3 and VersaMax rifles. We will continue to evaluate several other products and make timely decisions about the direction due to the high capacity of our core products.
A: Our name is RemArms LLC, but we reserve the right to call the guns "Remingtons". Your new 870 says "Remington" on the receiver. RemArms has started shipping the new 870, but is it as good as the original Express? We put it up against one of the best pump action pistols of all time
Shotgun Review: Remington 870 Fieldmaster
RemArms, the company that bought the pistols, rifles and shotguns division of Remington out of bankruptcy in the fall of 2020, has the most difficult task of all the manufacturers who bought the various brands and products that were once under the Big Green umbrella. . The company delivers the most beloved (and best-selling) pump action rifle in American history—the Remington 870 Express—to the same high standard that American hunters have come to expect from a rifle that has been in production for over few years . 70 years
Remington's factories were closed under previous ownership and produced no guns during the bankruptcy. Finally, the "new" 870 Express hit store shelves this summer. I was able to get one of the early models, a black synthetic 12 gauge, to try. I wanted to know how it stacks up to a war-killed Magnum 870 Express that has killed countless deer, ducks and turkeys. So I took both guns to the range to find out.
It was a closer match than I expected. One of the things I've noticed when testing modern guns is that newer guns often don't throw the factory chokes like the old guard when fired. Not every new gun I shoot has that, but when I compare an older model gun to the next generation, I'm not surprised when newer guns don't fire as well. And it's not always a big difference. Sometimes it's a few percentage points. But still a difference.
I recently spoke with a gunsmith about this and he reported similar test results. According to him, this phenomenon is caused by the fact that many manufacturers buy low-quality steel for the joints, which results in a poor design of the gun. He made chokes from foreign steel and American steel and found that US steel always performed better. This is not to say that every new weapon is not a good example; it's a trend we both see. This is a long explanation of why I think the new RemArms Express doesn't shoot as well as the old 870. I swapped out the modified trigger from the old 870 for the new one and found it pulled better.

However, the difference between the two guns was not as wide as I thought. And while this new 870 may not be the gun your dad or granddad hunted, it's still a reliable workhorse that will cost you $400 (I paid $433 including FFL transfer and state tax).
With more than 11 million guns sold, the 870 is the best pump action of all time, but the Mossberg 500 is in decline as production ceased after Remington filed for bankruptcy. In my opinion, the RemArms 870 Express 870 manufactured by Big Green is no different. But I haven't hunted with an 870 made in the last decade, but I have seen and dealt with it in gun shops. One thing I could tell right away was that the new gun was lighter than the 870 I shot and the matte finish was a little different as well. Check out the specification chart for the RemArms 870 here.
I had no functional problems shooting the new 870, which is to be expected with a pump action rifle. Pumps usually work if you don't wear the striker or lifter and can get the action to work. RemArms still uses the double-action slide bars found on the older Express and Wingmaster models. It's a proven system that doesn't break often. It takes decades of tool abuse for these strips to split. Even then they tend to bend - I've never seen the strips split in half, which is rare.
The front end is moved slightly back with each shot, which helps to open the action and eject the spent shell. It also moves the camera forward, which allows the next round to be charged in the battery faster. I think the reason the action was back a bit was because I was shooting 1¼ oz Hevi-XII tungsten loads.

When I shoot the 1 ounce target loads at the skeet the front end doesn't move at all as the lighter loads don't have much recoil. The gun has been hitting clay birds well for me from all stations on the skeet range and I have taken a few doves with it on my parents farm. When you shoot birds, your focus is (and should be) on the bird. I like it like the swing gun, if it suits me well, etc. I didn't take it into account. Clays are the true test of a rifle because you can focus more on your shot and handling of the gun.
I noticed that the 870 had some whiplash due to its light weight. In other words, it's quick and easy, but it can be difficult to achieve consistent accuracy. Think how easy it is to swing a light baseball bat; how much he moves through the strike zone against a heavy hitter and how much slower he moves because of his weight. U
