Narrator: Military Entry Processing Centers, or MEPs, are where applicants go to complete the recruitment process for military service. MEPs ensure that each applicant meets fitness, physical and behavioral standards set by the Department of Defense and the service branches.
The government pays for accommodation for all military applicants preparing to go through the MEP process. Hotel staff explain what to expect later in the day, including rules of conduct and a list of prohibited items not allowed in MEPs.

Some MEPs process as many as one hundred and fifty applicants in one day. The treatment can take between 5:00 and 9:00. After discussion with the MEP commander, applicants meet with a representative of their chosen branch of service, where they receive the applicant's application form and are directed to the control desk for instructions. All applicants must take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery or ASVAB. The ASVAB is a series of aptitude tests that help determine which military jobs a person is best suited for. The ASVAB measures reading comprehension and math skills, as well as electronic, science, and mechanical knowledge. It takes up to three hours. The next step is the medical examination. Tests include a complete urinalysis physical, HIV, pregnancy, drug and alcohol tests, an orthoneural test that tests balance and coordination, and hearing and vision tests.
